AUGUST 30, 2008: The organic egg sector is being hit by the economic squeeze, according to reports from within the industry.

Organic Farmers and Growers chief executive, Richard Jacobs, was quoted as saying producers are now "feeling the pain".

He said some people move out
of organic production, while a few others are reducing their exposure
by taking some flocks out of organic status.

Geoff Cooper sales and contract producer director at Noble Foods was quoted as saying: "The market is currently going through a difficult time there
does appear to be a link to the credit crunch making the consumer feel
poorer."
