Mission to learn about bluetongue

PUBLISHED: 10:15 16 November 2007 | UPDATED: 08:17 28 March 2014

November 2007: A team of British farmers has been on a bluetongue fact-finding trip to France.

During

the three-day visit, the 15-strong NFU group visited five farms in the

northern region of the country - an area which had hundreds of cases of

the disease before it reached UK shores.

Working with the French

Farming Union - the FDSEA - NFU livestock advisers and members were

taken to sheep, beef and dairy farms to see first hand how the disease

was affecting production and were shown cattle and sheep either

suffering or recovering from the effects of being bluetongue positive.

The

trip was designed to improve the NFU's understanding of bluetongue for

communication to membership by learning lessons from French farmers.
